Tryin’ is the latest single from North East alt-country singer-songwriter Jack Mylchreest and is taken from his upcoming EP, which is set to be released later this year. The track with its rich, warm guitar tones, foottapping rhythms and melodious, impassioned vocals comes with an equally appealing music video, which we’re delighted to get an exclusive look at.

Here, Jack tells us more about the song’s visual accompaniment…

“We shot the music video in quite an interesting way, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. For the last video (My single ‘Safe With You’) I enlisted the help of Alex Williams, who also produces all of my music. This time however Alex had to direct virtually over FaceTime, as he now lives in America. This also meant we had to be clever with how this video was shot, and so we opted to go for a static shot for most of the action.

“We used my parent’s living room to create the illusion that this was a real couple in a real house, with the camera being a portal looking out through the couple’s TV. This allowed us to use the static shot to our advantage and create a montage effect, where the time of day and action changes, but the location stays exactly the same.

“The 2 amazing actors in the video (Luke Walker & Jasmin Choy) did a fantastic job of portraying a couple whose relationship has become stagnant, which is what the song is about. The storyline of the video follows the lyrics in a clever way, while interspersing shots of the band.

“Scott Charlton (the bass player) and myself took over camera duties for the close up shots of the band, so that we could still get some detailed clips. The rest of the band consisted of my partner Sophie Purvis on Drums, and Lyndon Philliskirk on keys, with both doing an amazing job of bringing the energy needed for this kind of pop video.”
