Last August, melodic alt-rockers Honeyflux were selected for Sage Gateshead’s Summer Studios programme, a free, week-long residency for artists of all genres to be able to create new work, develop their practice or prepare for a performance. As part of the week they had a live performance of their song God, Buddha & Me professionally filmed and we’re delighted to be given an exclusive look at the video.

Here, the band tells us more about the video and their Summer Studios experience…

‘We were absolutely thrilled to be accepted on the Sage’s Summer Studios artist residency in  August of 2021; the list of musicians we rubbed shoulders with were all of the highest skill level  and we gained so much from being around such an abundance of talent!

We decided to approach our residency as an opportunity to develop the ways in which we  creatively worked together. With the emphasis being on writing music as a team, we researched  and developed new methods for us to creatively collaborate in.

With our latest single, ‘God, Buddha & Me’ set to be released soon after our residency, we  decided to perform that track in our live video session. We felt this track not only showcases  strong points of our musicality, but also displays our morals. The emphasis within the track  questions why we see our deities as males, speaks of equality as a human race and discuses our  existence in perspective.

The benefits of having that space and time at the Sage are still being relished in the band and we can’t thank the Sage and the team on the Summer Studios Programme enough for such a  positive and motivating experience!’
