Reliably informed

Like many of us who work in the creative sector, lead singer and songwriter of Head of Light Entertainment, Carl Green, found himself with more time on his hands than what he would have liked. However he took advantage of the situation and turned it into something constructive by putting together the art house-esque music video to HOLE’s latest release, Dipping In And Out, a synthy pop carousel of ‘doop’s and other danceable delights.

Carl tells us more about the song and video…

“The song Dipping In And Out is taken from our last EP (Periphery) and was first released in November last year, so it’s actually only the video that’s new. We had intended to have a video ready for its release but, hard to imagine now, we were all too busy with work! Anyway, the song is essentially proclaiming “artistic anonymity = artistic freedom”, the joy of being able to do your own crazy thing without having to conform to other people’s expectations. I feel you can push things a lot more when you’re not restricted by obligation to please a large audience, an advantage most “obscure” bands have over their more well known peers.”

Dipping In And Out was mainly filmed in lockdown so location number one was home- the bathroom, bedroom and garden all make guest appearances! It’s mixed in with old holiday footage, live footage, manipulated stills, and “found” Youtube stuff, all lovingly spliced together over the course of six weeks. I’m a video making virgin and a complete technophobe so it’s been a hell of a learning curve, but one I’ve absolutely relished. We’ve always liaised quite closely with videographers in the past, but having full control has been like taking the wheel instead of being a slightly anxious back seat driver. As musicians and artists we all dip in and out of our creative space during everyday life, even at a subconscious level. Some of my best ideas have come in the shower, mercifully a scene I didn’t include in the video! The visuals are as abstract as the concept, but hopefully still convey the message.”
