Welshborn and Newcastle-based alt/art-folk cellist and singer, Ceitidh Mac is set to release her latest single Scrapheap on Friday 18th June. The track is taken from her new EP, I Reach for the Pen, which is set for release on 27th August (you can pre-order via Ceitidh’s kickstarter here).

Recorded with the assistance from sound engineer Sam Grant (Pigsx7, Richard Dawson) and producer Calum Howard (The Dawdler, Greytapes) Scrapheap is a finely crafted offering featuring a unique cello riff, contemporary ambience, captivating percussion and some rather beautiful vocals.

We’re delighted to be given an exclusive look and listen to the track ahead of its release. Here, Ceitidh tells us more about the song and the video that accompanies it…

“On the surface, this song is an appreciation song for my old car ‘Hardy, Old Corolla’. It was nicknamed the ‘Scrapheap Survivor’ by a Glaswegian mechanic, and got us around the UK to gigs without fail! The underlying thread to this song was sparked by someone leaving a note on my windscreen saying ‘Please park properly next time!’ It seemed like a big effort to go to for such a petty thing! Not to say the small things in life don’t matter, they do! There’s a lot of chaos in the world though, and directing our rage towards that rather than our neighbours is what I’m getting at!’  The ‘miles and miles to go’ is more about us humans and our behaviour, than about my car!

“If you ever saw us driving to a gig in my old car, it looked very like this one in the video for Scrapheap! Although it now IS on the scrapheap, it lives on..! Although this song isn’t really all about my old car, we wanted the video to be a bit of Newcastle, all set in the back lanes, yards and Town Moor of the Toon.

“It was filmed by Adam Goodwin (, who is mint at what he does, check out his other work!”
