Michael O’Neill discovers a pristinely-engineered slab of classic heavy metal from the local riffmeisters
Gently easing you in with a slow fade-in of droning guitar, before hurling you in medias res into a torrent of sound, Lost In The Wave is a pristinely-engineered slab of classic heavy metal from local riffmeisters Avarice.
All the hallmarks of prestige metal are represented here, with loud-quiet dynamics, walls of muted guitars and throat-shredding vocals with operative octave runs and shredding galore. Despite only sticking around for a brisk three minutes, Lost In The Wave is a brilliant, intricately arranged calling card for the band, showcasing their deft ability to write a song that offers a platform for their phenomenal talents as musicians whilst also making it clear that have the songwriting chops to match. An enthralling listen.
