We find out all we can about the creative solo-artist from Gateshead who drops their new single, Ofsted Off Their Heads
Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Timmy, and I’m from Dunston in Gateshead.
What is it you do?
Everything apparently haha. I’m a vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, mix and mastering engineer. I’m the entire creative process on my own.
How long have you been doing it?
I’ve been in and out of bands since I was 13. I’m 21 now so 8 years doing music. I started out as a guitar player, I thought I was Slash till about the age of 18. I burnt out though, then got into vocals, then songwriting and production. I’ve only really been producing since 2020/2021 so around 3 years.
What inspires you?
Storytelling. If I wasn’t writing lyric and narrative-driven music, I wouldn’t be creating art. I’d just join a cover band instead, belt out a few Guns N Roses tunes and call it a day. With that being said, I do also enjoy the challenge of ‘how impossible can I make this song to sing’ as growing up I always felt like my favourite singers weren’t human. I also enjoy pushing the limits to see how whacked out I can make a song, how many different places I can pull from and where I can take a piece of music.
Tell us about your music.
“If Kendrick Lamar did as much coke and acid as System Of A Down”
“If Tim Burton mixed acid jazz with metal”
Or literally just “disturbing”.
The best compliment by far though is when people tell me “I wouldn’t normally listen to something like this, but I love it”. And I think where that comes from is my sheer number of influences.
My music is conceptual. Every decision I make means something. I don’t have a specific genre, I’m inspired by everything. Not even just musically, but life in general.
I want my song to feel like a journey or an adventure, rather than a straight line. However, my new single ‘Ofsted Off Their Heads’ is an entirely different vibe. Way more hip hop and funk influenced.
What have you got coming up in the future?
I’m in the middle of finishing my debut album, I’m currently dropping some singles from the album in anticipation.
Where can people find out more about you?
All my music is under the artist name ‘Timmy’.
The main social media I use is Instagram, and my account is @theartisttimmy.
Threads just got released yesterday night (as I’m writing this) and I’ve been really active on there too.
