Experimental music outfit, Yes Plant follow up their single, Secret language (1) with their second release of 2021, Father. With front-man Matthew Jameson taking a small break, this latest offering sees the duo of Tired Trace and Adam Tyson team up with SoundCloud singer Gulliver for the second time (the first being for the song Press Play from their last album, Coming Back To It). The track, which was born from sampling Adam’s screams, contains lyrics from the point of view of a son missing their father, as well as the father’s reflection on his marriage. It’s a charming, yet unsettling listen with an intriguing and rather enjoyable soundscape complete with thumping beats, interstellar synths and hypnotic guitar repetition. You probably won’t be humming it in the shower after your first listen (that’s not the point) but it’s a track that will stay with you and your subconscious until you feel compelled to put your headphones on and give it another go.

We’re delighted to offer you an exclusive listen of Father. But first, Yes Plant themselves tell us a little more about their new single…

“It’s so much fun working with Gulliver again, we bounce ideas off each other all the time. ‘Father’ actually came about from us going back to some of my scrapped ideas. One of these was the idea of sampling screams from Yes Plant member Adam Tyson into the mix, and I think that’s led to a quite comedic instrumental. Lately, I’ve been really getting into the electro-pop/PC Music sound with the likes of Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek – so that’s where my main inspiration for this song and the upcoming project has come from” – Jake

“I’m really excited for people to hear this future project! To me, ‘Father’ really shows that experimental and comedic aspect of music that we like to focus on as a group. The lyrics are just one part of an ongoing story, a story that this next project is going to flesh out even more.” – Adam
