Single Exclusive: Sarah Johnsone – Hurricane

North-East singer-songwriter Sarah Johnsone drops her latest single, Hurricane, a song that talks about her anxious state of mind during lockdown. This captivating latest offering starts dreamy, then gets punchy and features some succulent, driving bass, interesting math-rock-esque breakdowns and shiny shoegaze riffs, all of which raises up Sarah’s soulful, yet nonchalantly cool, vocal. It’s a track that can fill indie dance floors but with affecting lyrical content that will also fill your heart.

We’re delighted to get a first listen of Hurricane ahead of its release on Friday 5th August. Here, Sarah tells us more about the single…

“The song was born out of catharsis. It speaks of my lockdown exacerbated anxiety – alleviated by the songwriting itself. I’ve used themes of weather, like storms, rain and cold, to portray my state of mind. I like to keep the song from sounding melancholy by juxtaposing solemn yet earnest lyrics with a charged sound. I brought the beginnings and spirit of the song to the band, and together we created ‘Hurricane’. We recorded it at Polestar Studios with Alex Blamire, a place we have recorded at a few times in the past and really enjoyed. It was then produced by the genius that is Rob Irish who has so far produced all of my music!”
