Dan Rochester was a heavy metal guitarist/bassist, who after 12 years of gigging and recording returned to his love of acoustic guitar and pursued a career as a fingerstyle guitarist. He has since spent his time writing and recording guitar instrumental songs that are incredibly expressive and cinematic. His music is influenced by piano music from Ludovico Einaudi and Fabrizio Paterlini, as well as heavy metal greats such as Metallica and Iron Maiden and is focused on emotion and dynamics rather than technical ability.

Daniel will be releasing a single every third Friday of each month leading up to the release of his debut album (released 18/10/19). Silhouettes, the second of these releases is out today and is a mesmeric and beautifully composed track. It’s a Latin flavoured musical journey, filled with attention-grabbing tempo changes and demonstrating a range of guitar sounds from tender picks to percussive hits.

I wrote the song with flamenco music in mind, even though my skills aren’t anywhere near as good as flamenco players, which has resulted in this song being a bit more ‘upbeat’ than the other songs on the album. When i was brainstorming ideas for music videos, I liked the idea of having a dancer or two choreograph a routine to a song and this one seemed to fit perfectly, especially after adding the percussion which lifted the song even further” explains Dan.

He adds, “I recorded the album at Wood Cottage Studios in Hartlepool between May 2018 to March 2019, with Benjamin Norman, who has done a great job recording and engineering everything. Artwork duties have been/are being handled by Aisha Al Sadie, who is painting a piece for all 12 tracks on the album.”
