More info on Noveller

Fantastic Planet, the sixth album from Brooklyn based musician Sarah Lipstate, aka Noveller, sees her venture further into synthesizer territory whilst refining her knack for building up delicate layers of rhythmic guitar loops and glacial drones. Opener Into the Dunes recalls Interpol with its staccato opening guitar notes but quickly ventures into more cinematic territory as the deep synth bass and distorted guitar chords gradually build into a subtle crescendo. As the album progresses it’s clear that Lipstate’s main focus is still the guitar, with the synth work mainly providing complimentary textures or a rhythmic bedding for the layers of guitar loops and drones. As the title might suggest, this is a bright and uplifting album which benefits from its strong melodic content, something often lacking in the genre.
