The eclectic Morecambe Bay outfit and North-East trad folk and jazz all-star band bring their distinctive sounds to Cobalt’s Fresh night on Thursday 23rd September
Fresh Thursday takes place at Cobalt, Newcastle every Thursday, showcasing exciting new music in an ambient setting complete with candles, board games aplenty, and a home-cooked meal.
Performing on Thursday 23rd September is Deep Cabaret, the last band to perform at Cobal before the world fell apart due to Covid. The Morecambe Bay outfit brings together band leader Steve Lewis’ influences, including jazz, improv, African, folk and leftfield pop and features lyrics taken from various texts that have interesting things to say about the human condition. Expect a variety of wonderful sounds such as desert blues improv, noir-drenched drone songs, bagpipes, throat singing and more.
Joining them are Cosys Ex an all-star lineup of local musicians from trad folk and jazz backgrounds featuring Ada Francis (Lyras) on the clàrsach/Celtic harp, Callum Younger (Pons Aelius) on bodhràn and drums, Kaitlin Ross (Eabhal) singing Gaelic and playing guitar, combined with Anna Hughes (Balter, Benjamin Fitzgerald) playing the violin and re-sampling, along with Rob Griffiths (Martha Hill) on bass, keyboards and production.
The band creates a gorgeous and distinctive “Celtic Fusion Electronica” sound with their four-part vocal harmonies, live production techniques and a unique approach to percussion.
Tickets are available on Cobalt’s website for £10 including dinner (or £7.70 without food).
