Brighton is fast proving to be a melting pot of creativity and cool that is producing so many great bands vying for your attention. One band making a name for themselves at the moment are the exotically named Yonaka who will be pitching up at Ku Bar on Friday 10th June.

After a busy 2016 so far, and heavy championing from the likes of DIY Magazine and BBC Introducing, this could be the last chance to see them before they blow up massively. Mixing pop sensibilities with atmospheric synths is de rigeur at the moment, but when Yonaka throw in crunchy guitars and surprisingly unsettling vocals from the captivating Teresa Jarvis, you’re in for something pretty special indeed.

Recent single Run mixes industrial riffs, R’n’B lyrical stylings and soaring choruses, so it’s no wonder that their dark indie pop has seen them supporting both Killing Joke and Drenge on tour.

Support comes from Teesside’s psych prog math maestros Weird Shapes and dreamy pop loveliness from The Broken Broadcast.

Yonaka play Ku Bar, Stockton on Friday 10th June.
