Two of the region’s most highly regarded indie pop promoters, Popklubb and Stay Critical Or Die, are joining forces to present a noise pop extravaganza at The Cluny 2 in Newcastle on Sunday 28th August, headed up by London’s Witching Waves.
Having recently released their sophomore album, Crystal Café, Witching Waves’ delightful noise is at once aggressive, yet sweetly alluring. Drawing comparisons to the likes of Veronica Falls and The Vaselines, the trio’s jarring guitar lines, winsome vocals and percussive assaults combine to provide a rather lovely edgy racket. Also on the bill are Leeds-based Crumbs, whose lo-fi noise pop has recently caught the ear of BBC 6Music’s Marc Riley.
Ably demonstrating the North East’s skill at producing sludgy punk, Tough Tits’ appearance brings overdriven lushness and scattergun percussion that’s perfect for losing yourself in; while Baker Island deliver their tuneful aural assault in the form of fuzzy indie rock.
The winsome quartet of bands will ensure a danceable evening of hazy rock joy, just perfect for a sunny August bank holiday.
