Reliably informed

Oh, another Bronte adaptation, I hear you sigh. Well yes, but a new piece of theatre, We Are Bronte, brought to us by Bristol based theatre company Publik Transport, promises to be no ordinary Bronte sisters adaptation. Specialising in devised theatre, the small scale touring company have made it their mission to not bore their audiences with fearless theatre work and tongue-in-cheek comedy – sounds good to me.

Described as part play, part enquiry into the act of putting on a play, We Are Bronte sees two performers spectacularly deconstruct themes of love, madness, repression and revenge in a comic piece of visual theatre inspired by the world of the Bronte sisters, that of both real and imaginary. Think physical theatre meets stand-up, thrown in with a little improv and clowning, perfectly in keeping with Publik Transport’s notably, irreverent style.

Directed by Ed Rapley and starring company Artistic Director Angus Barr and Sarah Corbett – who both devised the play as well as performing it – make sure you check out We Are Bronte. It is tipped as “physical theatre at its most superb and its most silly” after all…

We Are Bronte comes to Washington Arts Centre on Thursday 29th October.
