Newcastle will be hosting the UK’s first socially distanced live music arena this summer. Nine events will be hosted at Virgin Money Unity Arena, who have partnered with local promoters SSD Concerts. The events will take place at Newcastle Racecourse, Gosforth Park, from Friday 14th August-Saturday 5th September, where audiences will watch the artists from their own viewing platform, adhering to social distancing guidelines.

The first wave of artists have been announced today, with Newcastle’s own indie rock titans Maximo Park (Saturday 5th September) being a clear highlight. Also bringing their own brand of idiosyncractic indie sounds are Supergrass (Saturday 22nd August); loveable scamps Pete Doherty and Carl Barat bring their Libertines to Tyneside (Saturday 29th August); and there’s sets from solo star Tom Grennan (Saturday 27th August) and Two Door Cinema Club (Saturday 15th August), while opening proceedings, DJ and funk and soul pioneer Craig Charles will kick things off on Friday 14th August. Comedy plays a part too, with live sets from surreal storyteller Bill Bailey (Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd September) and comedy and stage star Jason Manford (Sunday 30th August).

Tickets go on sale on Friday 10th July from 10am from this link, with each event individually priced. Further line-up announcements will be released in due course.
