Reliably informed

Flamboyant Newcastle rockers Velvoir are, in their own words, on an “erotic musical conquest”. The latest chapter in this intimate saga comes in the form of their new EP, The Old World Is Dying…Bring Out Your Dead, set for launch at The Cluny 2, Newcastle on Saturday 15th August.

The Old World Is Dying is a feat of rock that proves sometimes glamorous, occasionally fuzzy, and always enrapturing. Overtones of fornication and debauchery linger throughout; Opener Pearls In Velvet sets a polished tone before disintegrating into sexual refrains and laughter, and the final track’s title – Blow – tells you all you need to know by name alone.

What it lacks in prudence it makes up for in assurance, melding the best of rock, blues and a whole host of other influences to become one of the unlikely local EPs of the year.

Velvoir describe their live show as an “experience”, and since playing their first live shows in February, they’ve leapt and bounded through over thirty gigs. The fabulous Verity Jasmine Bee plays a cross between Dr. Frank-N-Furter and Marilyn Monroe, adding a most thespian dimension to her recorded vocals.
