Camden rockers Toy have been mainstays on the indie circuit ever since the band first met in the nation’s capital in 2010. They head to Sunderland’s Independent on Saturday 25th January as part of Independent Venue Week.

Their first self-titled record was an excellent example of sleazy, rolling indie music. But their musical journey since then has been a fascinating one, with Join The Dots and Clear Shot paving the way for the more experimental sounding Happy In The Hollow back in 2016.

By now the band are building a formidable back-catalogue, and you can expect the setlist to weave between all of their four albums. Motoring was a notable hit back in 2012 with its ferocious alt. rock sound which has managed to stand the test of time. Their live shows are similarly revered, with tracks such as Fall Out of Love bringing more of a party atmosphere and the delicately layered arrangements of Dream Orchestra offering another dimension to their performances. They’re custom made for the intimate surroundings of Independent, making this gig one not to be missed.
