With their psychedelic organs and guitars, Manchester’s Inspiral Carpets were one of the quintessential bands of the 90s, producing four classic albums in as many years and cementing themselves as icons of the post-Madchester scene. Since their initial split in 1995, frontman Tom Hingley has established himself as an indie icon in his own right, and fans are being given the chance to have an intimate audience with him at Pop Recs on Sunday.

Hingley has released a staggering eight albums in the past fifteen years, both as a completely solo artist and with his band The Lovers. In recent years he’s also become something of an academic and writer, having taught part-time at Salford University and penning his memoir, Carpet Burns: My Life With Inspiral Carpets. His passion for music knows no bounds, and Hingley’s eclectic collection of solo material from his various projects is sure to make for a delightful afternoon set at the venue. Expect him to pop a few Inspiral Carpets tunes in there too, just for old times’ sake.

On a side note, Hingley also produces his own line of bitter ales, which may be available to whet your whistle…

Tom Hingley plays at Pop Recs Ltd, Sunderland at 2pm on Sunday 5th April.
