You’ll often here people label bands as ‘legendary’, though rarely is it deserved. But this is The Zombies we’re talking about… The Zombies are one of the most important bands in the history of British rock ’n’ roll releasing their first record more than half a century ago, after winning the chance to record a demo in a band competition. Their influence doesn’t stop within their own musical pigeon-hole with self confessed rap god Eminem using a sample on 2013’s Marshall Mathers LP2. Fresh off the back of releasing a new album, appropriately titled Still Got That Hunger, The Zombies bring their unique blend of jazz-tinged melodic rock to Newcastle’s Riverside on Saturday 12th December.

Support comes from upbeat folk ’n’ roll outfit Josh Flowers And The Wild. A band building a real reputation with blatant Bob Dylan overtones and the kind of energetic live shows that make them hard to ignore.

Expect, of course, to hear plenty of tracks from The Zombies’ new album, which is by no means the kind of middle of the road comeback album we’ve seen from other ageing rockers in recent years (partly because the Zombies have been actively gigging for the last 10 years) it’s full of properly brilliant, unapologetically old-fashioned rock tunes. It won’t all be new material of course, The Zombies are on record saying they still love playing classics like She’s Not There, Tell Her No and Time Of The Season, decade-in, decade-out, seeing the huge hits as a blessing not a curse.

The Zombies play Riverside, Newcastle on Saturday 12th December.
