Scottish three-piece The Xcerts visit the North East this month as part of their UK tour, dropping into Stockton’s Georgian Theatre on Sunday 25th February in support of their recently released album Hold On To Your Heart.

The trio venture beyond their usual alternative rock stylings to incorporate some 80s pop inspired hits with latest singles Feels Like Falling In Love and Hold On To Your Heart. Talking about the lead single and album’s titular track, frontman Murray Macleod explains that it provided a moment of catharsis for him. “[It’s] a song that we had to write in order for me to create some closure around the end of a five year relationship.”

Singer and guitarist Macleod croons over a very simplistic yet harmonious melody to create a song which reminds me a little bit of Simple Minds’ Don’t You (Forget About Me). There’s a cornucopia of feeling and experience poured into this album which anyone, regardless of how familiar they are with the Brighton-based rock band, can appreciate. The release demonstrates a wide range of musical styles, from mellow distorted pop to upbeat old-school rock, ensuring The Xcerts are bound to have at least one song for everyone’s tastes.
