Running an independent music venue in today’s climate is a pretty tough challenge, so it’s cause for celebration when a real North East institution hits a milestone as impressive as The Studio’s. The Hartlepool venue opened in May 1998, so they’re celebrating their 21st birthday this month with a Bank Holiday weekend of some of the things they do best.

From Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th May, local music lovers can enjoy a diverse collection of events, from a club night to live music and an evening with a bona fide musical legend.

The fun kicks off on Friday 3rd, when the Green Man Hi-Fi Sound System descend for a night of dub, roots, dancehall, reggae and rock steady sounds. On Saturday 4th, music industry mogul Alan McGee will be talking about his incredible career, from co-founding the legendary Creation Records to working with bands like Oasis and Primal Scream. It’s bound to be an insightful look at the music industry past and present, so it’s a real must for musicians and fans alike. Sunday 5th will see We Shall Overcome present a Musicians Against Homelessness benefit, with performances throughout the day from a host of local artists including Eskimos In The Desert, songwriters The Warrens and experimental folkies The Woven Project, with more to be confirmed.
