Reliably informed

I’m guilty of professing that a hell of a lot of my best stories stem from drink sodden evenings careening from ale house to ale house. Sometimes I feel that these stories would make a fine anthology of incidents that at times could make Hunter S Thompson blush. While I’m more than comfortable sharing these tales with my closest of friends and confidantes, I sometimes feel that sharing these tales of outrage and debauchery may not be the best things to share to someone that’s just met me. So infinite kudos has to go to Kevin P. Gilday for baring all in his latest spoken word performance The Man Who Loved Beer, which is coming to The Cumberland Arms on Friday 3rd April.

A Glaswegian through and through, Gilday is a veteran performer having made many an appearance at the Edinburgh fringe and has even performed at Glastonbury. He’s won awards at competitions ranging from the StAnza Digital Slam and the Creative Stirling Slam and he has his own show, Rhyming Optional, on Glasgow University’s radio station Sub City.

Joining Kevin on this performance is a selection of local talent that promises to be just as engaging and candid as Gilday. As well as George, Whitley Bay poetry veteran, Elaine Cusack will be part of the stellar line-up. Elaine runs a poetry appreciation society called Poetry With Friends in North Shields and her work has appeared on national and regional television. Vinny McHugh, a lad from the West End of Newcastle, who learned his trade in Cornwall by running poetry open-mic nights also forms part of the bill. Legend has it that Vinny marched from Jarrow to London with a bunch of mums from Darlington in protest against NHS cuts…
