For many, Friday 13th December 2019 lived up to its reputation for bad luck, as we woke up to the realisation that we were destined to have another five years of Tory rule under the extremely divisive leadership of Boris Johnson. Jonathan Maitland’s political comedy The Last Temptation of Boris Johnson therefore goes on tour at a very interesting time, aiming to address some of the biggest questions currently facing the country.

Set in 2029, within a post-Brexit Britain, the play joins Boris as he’s no longer PM. Through a series of unexpected occurrences, he’s thrust back into the spotlight and given the chance to “make Britain great again”. Exploring what Britain might look in a decade’s time and questioning what might be going on in our current PM’s mind, it’ll traverse topical terrain.

The script is updated to reflect the current state of political affairs – a feat in itself given our turbulent climate during which seemingly anything could happen. So, although it’s almost impossible to predict the next political twist before the show heads to Northern Stage between Tuesday 18th-Saturday 22nd February, one thing’s for certain: this will be a unique production that captures the feeling of our times.

The Last Temptation of Boris Johnson is at Northern Stage, Newcastle from Tuesday 18th-Saturday 22nd February
