The self-professed industrial folk rockers are playing gigs in their hometown and at Darlo’s Forum
The Jar Family haven’t forgotten their roots. Five individual songwriters who decided that they would pool their talents, they are about to sign off a year of constant touring with three local Christmas-time gigs. They may have evolved into a raucous five-piece, but they take their name from the donations jar they used to pass around at early gigs.
The self-dubbed “industrial folk”-rockers from Hartlepool play The Forum, Darlington, on Saturday 13th, and aVenue in their home-town, on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th December. Thanks to non-stop touring, they have earned themselves a considerable fan-base. Over the course of the year, they have grafted hard at Darlington, Brighton, and Oxjam Newcastle/Darlington, to name but a few. Their highlight will have no doubt been playing to a 80,000 strong crowd in Stockton this November, as part of the town’s fireworks extravaganza – proof if ever there was any that hard work and talent really do pay off.
One of the songs on their new set is 1914, a poignant commemoration of the First World War, which they released last month. Appropriately, December will mark a home-coming for the band, allowing them to reflect on and fully appreciate all the comforts that go with it.
