The superheroes of rap return after a long hiatus
It’s a bit hard to believe that The Great & the Magnificent have been away for five years, yet it really has been half a decade since the Tyneside rapping superheroes were last seen tearing up the region’s hip hop scene. Formerly Baron Von Alias and Mista Breeze of Big Beat Bronson, Steesh and Breeze are back once again to unleash unto the world their creative visuals, witty and intelligent lyrics and superb flow with their new single Animal.
The video for the single riffs on classic monster movies and has a sly dose of humour embedded underneath, as Steesh and Breeze perform some hilarious punchlines and swish rhymes over a pounding bassline and clashing drums. Almost transforming into an entirely different song two-thirds in – slowing and almost completely altering the beat and adding flourishes of sweeping, funky brass – the song itself neatly reflects the concept of a Jekyll-and-Hyde-like transformation that’s also hilariously referenced in the video itself.
Animal is released on all major digital outlets from Monday 11th May.
