The Forum Sessions, hosted by Tom Thorne at the Darlington based Forum Music Centre, bring a new dimension to Open Mic nights in the wake of the pandemic and have been filling our screens with lovely stripped back sounds for the past few months. In classic open mic style, each performer showcases three songs, which are recorded with professional sound and visuals to create a unique and varied viewing experience that are broadcast online. From heartfelt originals to rip roaring classics, there’s something for everyone.

Local singer-songwriter Tom had been involved in the live open mic nights at the venue pre-lockdown before being asked to compere these online events himself…

“I have been involved with the Darlington music scene for a few years now, gigging, busking, hosting and attending events. In fact the first Open Mic in Darlington I went to was at The Forum when Dave Brittle and Bradley Thompson was the host. From there he passed the torch on to me. With the Covid situation Open Mics could not run as they used to and so it evolved into its current format to keep encouraging local musicians”

Tom, alongside musicians Caitlin Morrow, Jonathan Honour, Bradley Thompson and Jane Beacher will be performing in the upcoming episode, which will be broadcast via The Forum’s YouTube channel and Facebook page on Wednesday 4th May.

If you’d like a spot on the upcoming sessions, then get in touch with Tom via his Facebook page.
