Do you want to see Evil Dead 2 reinterpreted through Elvis Presley songs? ‘Course you do!

If the premise of The Elvis Dead isn’t the barmiest show in the North East this month, I’ll eat my blood spattered blue suede shoes (not that I have any…yet). Rob Kemp, creator of this absolute masterpiece of daftness, brings his multi-award winning audio visual mash-up show to Stockton’s ARC on Thursday 19th April.

Kemp’s show has won plaudits up and down the country, nominated for Best Newcomer and winning the Award for Comic Originality at Edinburgh Festival last year, amongst many others.

The show is much as the title leads you to believe – the plot of classic horror movie Evil Dead 2 (because who’d make Evil Dead 1 reinterpreted through Elvis songs, amirite?) retold through the King’s back catalogue. The film’s secluded cabin is transported to the Delta, and Kemp relives the horror of Ash Williams’ demonic battle while bastardising Elvis Presley tracks; Jailhouse Rock becomes Standing In A State of Shock, Are You Lonesome Tonight? Becomes Are You Losing Your Mind?…you get the gist. Yet Kemp’s approach isn’t piss-taking or mean, it’s a devoted paean to two subjects he has an obvious love for, just with decapitations, demonic possession and chainsawing his own hand in the process.
