There’s been a recent resurgence in the popularity of hip-hop in the north east scene and a celebration of this movement will take place with an all-day event at The Sage Gateshead on Saturday 6th May.
Presented by The Bridge, there will be a free daytime event followed by a ticketed evening showcase from 6.30 – 10.30pm. During the daytime, expect film screenings, talks and many other performers including rising local stars like Newcastle’s own Kay Greyson.
The evening event will feature the very best in UK hip-hop and grime, covering all formats of the genre. There will be the old skool hip-hop of DJ Marga & Brainiac – both members of the groundbreaking UK rap collective Katch 22 – and Blade, one of the UK’s finest MC’s.
Bringing things right up to date will be Grime Queen nominee Paigey Cakey and Kema Kay, a local act you may recognise from I, Daniel Blake. Fresh from supporting the legendary KRS-One will be Newcastle’s own Gilly Man Giro, alongside Rick Fury who is launching his new album at the event. Holly Flo Lightly’s jazz infused rhyming skills will be on display, and so too will Genesis Elijah, coming up from London for the event. Scratch Masters A.D.S. will be on the DJ decks, alongside host Ken Masters in what is sure to be a night to remember. In case you need any more persuasion, there’ll be a free CD from The Bridge included in the ticket price.
