Now isn’t the easiest time to be a budding songwriter. Sure, you now have more time to rehearse but in this current climate money to invest in your talent might be tight and with venues and studios closed, developing and monetising your craft could be a little tricky. Thankfully, it’s not all doom and gloom as The Alan Hull Award is open to applications from the region’s best and brightest.

Established in memory of songwriter and founding member of Lindisfarne, Alan Hull, the award was designed to encourage young songwriters in the North-East by awarding one of them each year with a bursary of £1000.

If you are aged 25 or under and have a talent and passion for songwriting then apply online with an application detailing your experiences, influences and ideas for composing and songwriting. This will be put to an independent panel which includes Kathryn Tickell OBE, Ray Laidlaw (Lindisfarne) and representatives from The Sage Gateshead who will pick a winner based on their application, music and performance.

Closing date for the applications is 5pm Monday 23 November 2020. You can apply here.
