Sage Gateshead are inviting musicians to apply for their popular Summer Studios residencies programme, which will take place from 2nd-15th August and will take a ‘hybrid’ format once again, with the programme taking place both in-person and online.

Free week-long residences are available for musicians, producers, artists, rappers and singers of all genres to create new work, prepare for a performance or develop their practice. The venue’s world-class facilities are available for use, and there’s expert advice and support on hand from mentors and industry professionals across a vast range of fields from record labels to management and press. A professional photoshoot and live filmed session is also included within the week-long sessions.

Previous attendees have included the likes of Ross Millard (The Futureheads), Big Joanie, Talk Like Tigers, Holly Clarke, Martha Hill and Frankie & The Heartstrings. Composer Ben Gaunt took part last year and found the experience invaluable: “I had a fantastic time on the Summer Studios residency; probably one of the best experiences I have had as a professional musician. The meetings with industry experts were so useful; I learned so much about self-promotion, and feel more prepared as I embark upon the next stage of my career. The people who work at Sage Gateshead are really friendly; not only did I receive amazing support during the residency, but I am still benefiting from the scheme months later. I urge any musician (regardless of genre and background) to apply for this amazing opportunity.”

Being afforded the time and space to concentrate solely on musical practice is a real luxury, and with the added benefit of expert advice and facilities available too, Summer Studios is an excellent opportunity for musicians of all kinds.

To apply, register your interest via the short online form here. The deadline for registering your interest is 1st April at 5pm. You will then need to complete the application form by 12 noon on Tuesday 6th April
