The wandering troubadour brings his folk-inflected songs to Tyneside
It seems as though Stu Larsen has set himself a mission to play a gig on every continent during his latest tour. Since October the Australian troubadour has managed to take his spellbinding storytelling songs from Stornoway to Sydney via Helsinki and Beirut. Halfway through his UK jaunt he’ll be making a stop at Newcastle’s Cluny 2 on Friday 13th February before jetting off to do the rest of Europe that he missed last year. Alright for some, eh?
Larsen’s popularity (for there are several sold out shows) may be down to his affable attitude and wandering spirit, but more likely stems from his gorgeous folk-inflected tunes. Marrying the fragility of artists like Damien Rice and Bon Iver with delicate, haunting refrains and the skewed folk of Passenger (which comes as no surprise considering Michael Rosenberg also produced and appeared on Larsen’s latest album, Vagabond), Stu Larsen’s rough edges are endearingly addictive.
Stu Larsen plays The Cluny 2, Newcastle on Friday 13th February.
