Since 2009, the finest traders in Britain – and beyond – have been turning up the heat and preparing some of the UK’s most exquisite finger food for the British Street Food Awards. This year, though, the Awards come with a bit of a twist and are gearing up to go on the road and bring some of the flavours to a wider audience. The events are seeing the festival travel to various “found” locations across the country, one of which is Newcastle’s Stephenson Boiler Shop, which will be hosting the heats for the North and Scotland on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June.

Rather than just being Masterchef without the shiny kitchen and Gregg Wallace though, the Festival is celebrating the best of the nation’s street food by creating a spectacular party, featuring live music, crazy golf and maybe even a few fireworks. Alongside some established acts, local artists are also getting the chance to play at the event with a little help from Spinnup, who are also hosting pop up sessions with A&Rs and local talent scouts from Island Records.

British Street Food founder Richard Johnson said: “Everything about this year is a step up. The music will fold around everything that we’re trying to do. There’s new holes on the street food crazy golf, and the entertainment – from a beer/food matching experience to a high-end food quiz – will blow your mind.”

Oh, and did we mention that on top of that your ticket to the event also entitles you to a free pint of Cornish Pilsner or Doom Bar ale? Just saying…

The British Street Food Festival comes to the Stephenson Boiler Shop, Newcastle on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July.
