A massive opening festival of events arrives for the independent cinema
The return of the utterly glorious independent cinema Star & Shadow arrives this weekend, with a range of events arriving at the Warwick Street venue. The volunteer-ran, community project is set to showcase just how important this place will be as a music venue, community hub and arts space.
The close of the Stepney Bank venue was greeted with a wonderful send off, and the return is set his those lofty standards too. Three days of events run from Friday 22nd June, with music, films, food, DJs and bands. Friday 22nd June features films on in the cinema and bands playing in the venue including Ladies of Midnight Blue, Grey Tapes, Pentecostal Party, Jazz Riot, Bianca Scout, Ceitidh Mac and more. Saturday 23rd June welcomes a dedicated late night and early morning session to get you dancing into the night. A stellar line-up of disc jockies including Tony Daly/Justin Mills, Richard Dawson, Opal Tapes, Becky Kilshaw and others will really get you moving.
It all closes out on Sunday 24th June with a chill out session of films and soundtracks. With food and children’s activities throughout the day times too, this is a perfect hello for a venue that is set to become a key part of Newcastle’s cultural scene.
