As I write this the John Lewis Christmas advert has just debuted on TV, Fenwick’s are unveiling this year’s window display and I’ve (begrudgingly) started drinking coffee out of a red cup; like it or not, Christmas is very much here. With bells on. Fortunately though, it isn’t all £1m advertising campaigns and Cliff Richard, as the good folk over at Sage Gateshead are putting on a handful of belting Christmas parties.

Friday 18th December sees the North East’s finest soul-merchants take over for a night billed as Smoove and Turrell’s Festive Sage Stuffing. 10/10 for festive punnery. Support from retro rockers Hyde & Beast, who stole the main stage at the O2’s birthday party recently, and live electronic outfit Grey Tapes ensures a stellar line up of local bands sure to have Sage’s Hall One dancing. For fans of funk, soul, electronica and a feel-good time.

The following Tuesday 22nd December, Sunderland sextet Lilliput take over Sage’s Hall Two for their fifth annual Christmas concert. Previous years have seen the boys sell out venues region-wide, with their trademark brand of harmony-drenched pop. Treating the crowd to two sets over the course of the evening, the first comprised of their own material which will be followed by a North East music love-in full of festive favourites and familiar classics. They’ll be joined for even more festive merriment by the Rock Choir, The Lake Poets’ Martin Longstaff and the breathtaking songwriting skills of Eva Stone.

Smoove & Turrell, Hyde & Beast and Grey Tapes play Sage Gateshead on Friday 18th December. Lilliput, Eva Stone, Martin Longstaff and Rock Choir play Sage Gateshead on Tuesday 22nd December.
