Lockdown is making people do the strangest things. For example, from 7pm on Saturday 25th April to 7pm on Sunday 26th April, Newcastle-based DJ Stagger Lee will be attempting to play for 24 hours straight, with no breaks, sleeps or pre-recorded bits. He’s calling it Sleep Is For The Weak! A 24 Hour DJ Marathon and is hoping to get plenty of listeners and plenty of support.

Stagger Lee, who puts on events like Jumpin’ With Stagger Lee, Riddim! and Lazy Sundays around the Ouseburn Valley, is hoping to raise funds both for himself (to cover a bunch of cancelled DJ gigs) and also for The Trussell Trust, who provide food banks across the UK. As well as donating, people will be able to buy some merch (coffee mugs, t-shirts and such) and can even sponsor an hour of the schedule.

Starting with some unashamed pop and ending with his usual Lazy Sunday With Stagger Lee session, the rest of the schedule will include hip-hop, soul, reggae, indie, ambient/electronica, gospel, country and more.

The marathon will be livestreamed on and there will be visuals, chat and the occasional webcam footage of an increasingly weary DJ. You can make requests or ask for shouts as well.

All the details can be found here and there’s also a Facebook event page here.
