Britpop favourites Shed Seven come to Newcastle this Thursday 3rd December as part of their national tour. With big singles like Chasing Rainbows, Disco Down and Going For Gold in their back catalogue it’s easy to see why they still have a big following. Fact fans may be surprised to read that they’ve actually had 15 Top 40 singles and four Top 20 albums, with their most well known being Maximum High. They now tour every other year (or ‘biennial’ according to their website. I’m not even sure that’s a word) and it’s a credit to their popularity that these tours are always well attended. In lead singer Rick Witter, they have one of the most memorable frontmen of the Britpop era and although they stand up as a band, it’s not that much of a leap to suggest he’s one of the main reasons they’ve stayed so popular. Having met the chap a couple of times I can also add that he’s a decent bloke as well. As a total bonus they’re supported by The Inspiral Carpets so a good night is guaranteed by all.

As if that’s not enough there’s an official aftershow at No. 28 (formerly The Red Rooms) with a Rick Witter DJ set. It’s likely the band will all be along as well. Rick plays classic indie and Britpop tunes: Stone Roses, Oasis, Charlatans etc and will be ably supported by those lovely fellas from Our Little Indie Night (or OLIN for short), who are gaining a great reputation on North Tyneside for their events. Entry is £6 with Shed Seven ticket stub or £8 without but keep an eye on social media as there may be some £5 guest lists floating about this week.
