It’s always exciting to see what comes out of a period of intense creativity, and Sage Gateshead’s Summer Studios programme provides musicians with time, space and support to enable them to get the very best out of their creative practice.

Between 2nd-15th August 20 emerging and independent artists will take part in the ‘hybrid’ edition of Summer Studios, with some of the programme taking place in person and some online, where they’ll explore new work, develop their practice or prepare for performances. They’ll have the run of dedicated rehearsal and studio facilities at the world-class venue, plus take part in one-to-one sessions and clinics with music industry professionals on subjects ranging from writing funding bids, approaching promoters, running press campaigns, songwriting, publishing, management and much more, with additional perks including a professional photoshoot and a filmed performance of one of their songs.

Music that will be conceived and created during the programme will include the twisted R&B futurism of Glor1a, IDM-influenced post-punk from North East two-piece Badger, Newcastle neo-soul from Lyras, melodic alt. rock from Honeyflux, contemporary classical pushed into new areas by Sam Cave, live coding compositions from Shelley Knotts and thrilling garage rock sounds from Teesside’s Wax Heart Sodality. Also taking part are Burd Ellen, Nadedja, Poor Moi, Kate Halsall, Simeon Walker, Yaatri, Ni Maxine, Elisabeth Elektra, Ani Sandwith, Major Ruse, Dilettante, Jules and Taupe.
