February is LGBTQ+ history month and to celebrate Live Theatre is putting on a week of work from queer artists. Between Tuesday 18th-Saturday 22nd February, head down to Live Theatre for performances, talks and panel discussions dealing with queer culture and history. The week kicks off with a work in progress reading from celebrated writer and director Laura Lindow of her new play. Wednesday 19th’s Queer & Now Scratch Night is sure to be a highlight; following an open call out, the evening will showcase new work from North East artists who identify as LGBTQ+. Thursday evening sees Alexis Gregory’s show Riot Act brought to life. The one-man show will cover six decades of LGBTQ+ history, using interviews from a survivor of the Stonewall Riots, a 70s drag artist and a 90s AIDS activist.
Jake Jarratt and Cameron Sharp’s W*nk Buddies will be performed on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd. Set during one night at a house party, the show deals with identity, class, sexuality and masculinity. The exploration of how contemporary masculinity intertwines with sexuality a key issue for the play’s two protagonists.
The season ends with Where Do We Go From Queer?, a panel discussion and Q+A of queer issues.
Queer & Now is at Live Theatre, Newcastle from Tuesday 18th-Saturday 22nd February
