Reliably informed

The last few years haven’t always been the easiest for the Morrissey fan in your life. His Mein Booky Wooky – sorry, Autobiography – might have lit up the literary charts, but it’s been far from plain sailing. Between a plethora of postponed and cancelled concert dates, a mixed reaction to his last album World Peace is None of Your Business and a plethora of increasingly questionable and concerning public statements, it’s been hard not to wonder if Steven Patrick has really got miserable now.

The good people of Popklubb though are here to remind you just why he became such an icon in the first place, with their Morrissey special on Friday 27th March. Alongside all the usual indie-pop, girl group and John Peel classics you might expect from them, they’ll be serving up an extra helping of the very finest moments from across Morrissey’s career, both in The Smiths and throughout his solo work.

It’s bound to be a great night for all the Morrissey obsessives out there, and even for those less (Roy’s) Keen on him, there’s still all the usual Popklubb treats to look forward to. And who knows: maybe those who have doubted him before might find that the more you ignore him, the closer he gets…

The Popklubb Morrissey Special takes place at St Dominics, Newcastle on Friday 27th March.
