‘Ello, ‘ello, ‘ello, what’s going on ‘ere, then? To investigate the motives of Gateshead’s newest venue-slash-promoter hybrid The Old Police House is not only to unleash a tsunami of plod-related witticisms, but also to unlock the tiny door through which can be found the darkest crannies of the region’s music scene. Bring a lantern and sustenance.

After putting on a handful of gigs over the last six months, this month sees the first Police House Party, starting in the afternoon Saturday 6th June and going on well into the small hours. The acts are an appropriately eclectic bunch, amongst whom are musician and Richard Dawson producer Phil Begg, who will be dusting off his Hapsburg Braganza project – expect dreamily slow guitars with overlaid soundscapes – and the two ladies of Charm Offensive deliver minimal electronica with obscurantist vocal meanderings. There’s disc spinning from DJs Mariam, Kuba and Richard Dawson himself, plus art installations and reasonably priced food. You can bring your own beverages, which makes a change from a cup of polystyrene tea thrust through the cell door. So if you’ve got the stamina, this promises to be a bit of a special night, made all the more so by the ghosts of old cons creeping the passageways after dark. It’s a fair cop Guv, etc.

Police House Party takes place at Old Police House, Gateshead on Saturday 6th June.
