UK-Russian relations could do with a boost, so in a sense the visit of Pinkshinyultrablast could hardly come at a better time. Certainly, Saint Petersburg’s pre-eminent shoegazers can expect the warmest of welcomes upon their visit to The Cluny on Thursday 3rd May, booked not only to showcase their new full-length album, but also to celebrate a decade since their debut live appearance.

Since that formative show at their hometown’s intimate Money Honey Club the quintet have ensnared western ears, building an extensive cult following on the back of acclaimed studio outings Everything Else Matters and Grandfeathered. While those records excelled in offsetting dense, cavernous noise with Lyubov Soloveva’s ethereal vocal chimes, this latest tour sees the group embark on a bold artistic reinvention, with elements of ‘80s synth-wave and Japanese pop groups such as Yellow Magic Orchestra creeping ever more prominently into their palette.

With third album Miserable Miracle hitting shelves the following day, the show could be spun as a de facto release party, and in locals Dose and Headclouds it boasts a supporting cast fit for the occasion. The former arrive on the back of recent single Furniture – recorded with MJ at Hookworms’ Suburban Home Studio, while the latter are preceding their debut Pure Honey EP with an extensive touring schedule.
