Reliably informed

Back in the day, cult Hartlepool Headland boozer The Fishermans Arms would have been the sort of suspicious, windswept den of reverie that used to entertain smugglers and fishermen after a tough day at sea. Nowadays it’s a friendly, good-time watering hole where everyone knows your name, perfect for PinDrop’s lovely blend of right-on alt. folk, acoustic bonhomie and traditional instrumentation, whilst offering respite for wandering minstrels and occasional bygone heroes.

The regular monthly bash is still going strong and has featured the likes of Martin Stephenson, Michele Stodart and Cattle & Cane amongst many, many more. Alldayer #3, taking place on Saturday 13th August, (back after a one year hiatus) promises a heady mix of real ale, arch musical storytelling and angsty interpretations of some classic folk tunes. Steve Daggett, of Lindisfarne fame, is confirmed to headline with his trademark gritty vocals and themes of love, loss and despair, while Amelia Coburn’s unique ukulele twist on punk and new wave heads up a supporting cast which also includes The Jar Family’s Al Devon, Chicken Shed Studio’s Kyle Cullen, Michael Gallagher plus The Broken Broadcast “in some guise or other”.

With more names to be confirmed and free entry all day, The Fishermans Arms can expect the sort of old-school hootenanny the historic Headland was built on.
