For those who want to round out the year with ringing ears and a broken consciousness, rejoice – we have you covered! Psychedelic noise rockers Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs are heading up a bill at The Head of Steam on Friday 12th December that seems set to send you off into the festive season dazed, deafened and elated.

It’s been a good year for the boys of Pigs, with the September release of their Psychopomp single gaining them new recognition for their mammoth-sized sound (as well as Single of the Month from this very magazine). Taking up twenty-one minutes of churning repetition that slowly shifts and blurs around you, with a touch of the percussive and textural experiments of the live Miles Davis bands of the mid-‘70s alongside the more expected touchstones. For their headline performance, they’re set to unveil Psychopomp in all its blazed glory, as well as new material that seems set to plunge even further into the cosmic abyss in search of distorted, swirling enlightenment.

Joining them on the night are Big Fail, whose brand of direct, punked-up sludge has made them a popular live band in the region – a gritty, earthy blast of noise just before the Pigs arrive to send you all hurtling towards the stars. There’s also the chance to catch the brand new power-trio Apologies, who open the show.

That’s five of your English pounds for three doses of grand, crushing rock action: isn’t that what Christmas is truly about?
