Reliably informed

Newcastle’s most indefatigable promoter Jonas Halsall (aka Inverted Grim Mill Recordings) has a host of great gigs coming to the Northumberland Arms this month (Magnapinna! Samothrace! The Infernal Sea! and thankfully not a Speed Donk Experience to be seen), but the pick of the bunch has to be the Palehorse show on Thursday 12th May.

Promoting their much-delayed new album Looking Wet In Public (available for pre-order from Holy Roar now, sample song title: Terrifying Japanese Coldplay Documentary), the band’s twin-bass-driven hardcore makes for a blistering live proposition, the sort of sound that makes you want to slamdance, get a neck tattoo or just sit down for a long, hard think about where it all went wrong. Ghold – now expanded to a trio and thus probably 50% more intense – are on a more doomy Melvins tip, but no less punishing for that, and they’ll be promoting their new album PYR, out in early May on Ritual Productions. Local radgepackets Lump Hammer kick things off and it’s going to be brutal. Bring your mum.

Palehorse, Ghold and Lump Hammer play Northumberland Arms, Newcastle on Thursday 12th May.
