Images of the refugee crisis in Europe have flooded our TV screens and newspapers recently, with scenes of overly-full boats, people being held in camps and living rough on the streets of Europe’s biggest cities a common sight. The crisis has also seen an outpouring of generosity from the public, with many giving clothes and food to those in need overseas. North East Musicians Unite – a group of local artists, musicians and people who genuinely care about making a difference to those in need – have also come together to put on two special gigs in Newcastle to help raise funds for those hardest hit by the crisis.

On Saturday 26th September, the group will be taking over The Cluny, where bands and acoustic artists will be paying tribute to The Beatles for a special one day event, complete with DJs, auctions and a lot of flowers. On Sunday 27th, the action moves to Ernest, where some more acoustic artists will be taking to the stage and there’ll be a bit of BBQ banter, mini exhibitions and more.

Not only that but a sizeable group of north east musicians have come together to record a version of The Fab Four’s classic single Help! Recorded in the space of a single week at Loft Studios and released on 26th September, the record has been spearheaded by David Burn, and features contributions from Barry Hyde, Frankie Francis, Steve Angus and Dave Hyde, Lucas Renney, John Turrell, Mick Ross, Mick Rolfe, John Nellist and many more in an attempt to raise more funds for the refugees.

Every penny will go directly to where the help is most needed, so make sure to dig deep and help out the collective in making things just a bit brighter for the thousands of refugees currently fleeing conflict.

North East Musicians Unite comes to The Cluny on Saturday 26th September and Ernest on Sunday 27th September. The charity version of Help! is released on Saturday 26th September on digital download and CD.
