The Stand regular prepares her new show before heading off to Edinburgh
A regular fixture on the North East comedy scene and beyond, Nicola Mantalios-Lovett is about to embark on the huge adventure of taking her first ever solo show, Cult Following, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Before that though, she’s performing a small number of previews as she hones the show to be the very best it can be, and she takes it to The Stand in Newcastle on Sunday 14th August.
Nicola has become something of a regular fixture at The Stand too, performing on their weekend shows, compèring their Red Raw gigs and a lot more besides. Her warmth on stage is infectious and she’s one of those comedians who just has funny bones. Brilliantly silly, this new show is something of a departure for Nicola, as she tells her deeply personal and poignant story of leaving her religious background and life behind, though gaining a great deal of freedom in the process.
Cult Following is a show filled with pathos but still big on laughs, a tale of survival and hope, it sees the local comic really push her phenomenal writing skills to the limit, to wring every giggle she can out of an incredible tale.
