Reliably informed

It’s just about that time again when we at NARC. pop down to Newcastle’s Boiler Shop Steamer and put on a few amazing bands for you to enjoy while sampling the rest of what the event has to offer. This month has also turned out to be a wonderfully mixed bag of genres, meaning there should be something for everyone to enjoy!

Headlining this month’s event are Newcastle’s own Nick Pride & The Pimptones, featuring the luscious and sultry vocals of soul songstress Beth Macari. Filled with some serious phat grooves (that definitely warrant the “ph”) and some beefy breaks almost as chunky as the ones cooking up at the Steamer, expect them to play tunes from their album Rejuiced Phat Shake (see what they did there?) Supporting them at the event, and playing two sets to delight our ears, is the equally wonderful Gem Andrews. The special sets will showcase her heartfelt and beautifully crafted alt-country songs inspired by everyone from Americana legend Jim White to Leonard Cohen. The combination of the pair will no doubt be like salted caramel: sweet, savoury and all-round delicious.

Of course, there’ll be all the usual delights on offer at the Boiler Shop to keep you happy in-between the acts. Riley’s Fish Shack and the Wylam Brewery are bringing all their favourite foodie outlets down to the venue for you to feast on, with a typically immense choice of cuisines from around the world to tantalise your tastebuds. With cocktails, whiskey, a range of real ales and sweet treats on offer too, it’s always a memorable night.

Nick Pride & The Pimptones and Gem Andrews play at the Boiler Shop Steamer on Saturday 2nd May.
