In the fourth of our stage focuses for this year’s NARC. Fest, taking place across the Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle on Saturday 4th July, John Nellist from the Monkey Junk Blues Club tells us about their line-up at The Cluny 2.

Skylark Song grew out of a mutual love of warm melodies, close harmonies and the odd natural lyrical reference. After sharing a stage with the likes of Ben Howard and gracing the stages of Ingleton Folk Festival and Willowman Festival, Skylark Song recorded their debut album at the renowned Blast Recording Studios (The Unthanks, Therapy) in April 2013. Their debut single was released in July 2013 to much critical acclaim. The duo will be playing their beautiful roots folk along with some traditional and Delta Blues, Do not miss their set!

Lomax is the name Stevie Lee Waugh goes by when playing his blues. Lomax recently played on Record Store Day at RPM Record shop where he got a great response from the crowd as well as The Boiler Shop Steamer. One of the best solo bluesman in Newcastle; make sure you get down to see him.

Allan Andrew Symons is a singer-songwriter with a love of early blues and roots music. He is currently in the very fortunate position of being a year into a PhD focused on American roots music of the 20s and 30s, and murder in the American South. Expect some original songs covering themes of murder, treachery, drinking and dysfunctional relationships plus covers of some early Delta blues grounded in the same themes… Happy stuff!

“Allan is joined by long-standing friend and musical cohort Si Normandale (also formerly of La Remedy) and together they aim to spoil the party for everybody by performing a mix of upbeat and slow songs of misery with big smiles on their faces.”

Further stage announcements will be made over the coming weeks, keep an eye on our Facebook page for more info about the festival. All events are free entry!
