Mr Shindig’s Laughter Store is a brand new comedy night that aims to give audiences something different with their Friday night entertainment. The debut show launched in October at True Coffeehouse in Heaton, to a packed house of happy smiling faces, and a line-up of some of the region’s top comedy talent, this follow up show on Friday 20th November seeks to be another stellar success.

This month sees headliner Amy Gledhill bring a mischievous wit and an act that is silly and wonderful in equal measure. Also bringing the silly, is Silly Billies founder Jack Gardner, a real risk taker with mad comedic ideas. Opening the night is seasoned local pro John Whale with his down beat, yet hilarious self-deprecating humour, so there’s a real mix of some top acts.

Keen to give a platform to much newer acts too, Mr Shindig’s Laughter Store also showcases acts that are rapidly establishing themselves as ones to watch on the North East comedy scene. So that means a further helping of Eddie Rivers, who has quickly been making a name for himself with some brilliantly inventive social commentary. While Alex Elliott, who only did his first ever gig at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival back in August, has some unique and intelligent comedy stylings on show.

All of the acts, as well as performing their usual material are encouraged to try something new and exciting; this can range from taking part in a glitzy game show or facing a comedy challenge. This month’s acts (and willing audience members) will be asked to show off their secret talent or party trick with a prize for the most entertaining.

The whole evening is held together by host and curator Joby Mageean, a comic troubadour with hilarious gags and a warm and welcoming presence. This little gem of a show is really not to be missed.
