NEWS: Mouth of the Tyne festival

The annual Tynemouth music festival Mouth of the Tyne is back and it’s another cracking line-up.

Attracting over 100,000 people each year, Mouth of the Tyne celebrates live music across Tynemouth Priory and Castle, Playhouse Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Surf Cafe.

The Playhouse get things started early on Saturday 2^nd, with Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul, featuring Sopranos star and E-Street band member Steven Van Zandt; there’s bluesy folk from This Is The Kit on Thursday 5^th, with support coming from unique harmony-led folk pop quartet The Cornshed Sisters; and funky folk pop from Suzanne Vega, who’ll be supported by special guest Karima Francis later in the month on Sunday 22^nd.

The main event at the Priory and Castle runs across the weekend of Thursday 5^th-Sunday 8^th July, with performances from alternative soul songstress Paloma Faith on Thursday 5^th, X Factor winner and ‘Boro boy done good James Arthur headlines on Friday 6^th, with singer-songwriter Gabrielle Alpin as a special guest. Co-founders of pop group Beautiful South Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott bring their catchy tunes to headline on Saturday 7^th, with beloved North East indie band Field Music supporting, whilst British soul queen Beverley Knight closes on Sunday 8^th.

Over at Tynemouth Surf Cafe, American alternative folk artist Josh Rouse will headline on Tuesday 3^rd and on Sunday 8^th BBC Introducing will take over with North East upcoming stars FEVA, Callum Pitt, Eve Simpson and YUMA.
